Grid Computing and Cloud Computing: Description and Comparision

In a basic grid computing system, every computer can access the resources of every other computer belonging to the network. In the ideal grid computing system, every resource is shared, turning a computer network into a powerful supercomputer. It’s a special kind of distributed computing. In distributed computing, different computers within the same network share one or more resources. Cloud computing is the use of a 3 rd party service (Web Services) to perform computing needs. There are differences in the processing capabilities and functionality between the two. They also have a difference in their networks and the way they process the tasks. The fundamental concepts of cloud and grid computing are varied. Still it is possible to have a cloud cluster with in a computational grid and vice-versa. The main aim of this work is to present an overview of grid computing and cloud computing. And also highlights the differences between grid computing and cloud computing. Here gives the general discussion about the basic characteristics, classification, services, applications and benefits of grid and cloud computing. This paper also give a comparative view of grid computing and cloud computing across wide variety of perspectives like business model, architecture, resource management, programming model, application model, security model and job scheduling.
